Update - Friday 14th May
I'll shortly be posting details of new season ticket prices including the 'early bird' offer, but in the meantime I give you details of an e-mail the club received from a Folkestone supporter:
"I was at the [play-off] game on Tuesday, and as a Folkestone fan I must say it was without doubt the best entertainment I have seen at Cheriton road.  We won today against Godalming Town 2-1 which secured us the promotion we already deserved (remember we had 10 points deducted!). But the real final was played out on Tuesday night. Godalming took a fraction of the fans that you guys did, and the occasion was all the more underwhelming for it.
We appreciated the effort so many of your fans made to see the game, which on another night may have swung in your favour. The few Tanners fans I got to speak to were gracious in defeat and on reflection I truly felt for their long journey home. I said to one fan shortly after the game that I wished him all the best for next season and I hope I speak for other Stripes fans when I say that. You guys made Tuesday night what it was for me, and if we manage to avoid relegation next season, I hope for a repeat of what was a superb game of football.
All the best for next seasons promotion push and I hope we meet again soon!
Up the Tanners!!!!
"

I wonder if they will be saying the same sort of things after we beat them in the pre-season friendly in August (see below)??!! Only joking.

The headline still holds true today...
From Charles Buchan's football monthly February 1958 (courtesy Mr Colin Ward):

Friday update
If you can face it, the official match report from Tuesday night is here.
Also some end-of-season reflections from our Club Secretary Geoff Corner:
" What a dramatic end to the season.
The game against Folkestone on Tuesday night had everything that is good about non league football. A noisy crowd, goals, excellent football, plenty of goal chances, played in a good sprit and a lot of tension.
Leatherhead played very well in the first half and deserved to be 2-0 ahead at the break, but we all knew Folkestone would not lie down and they would come back at us. They scored their first goal at the correct time and that put us under pressure. When the second one went in, I thought we would lose the game in 90 minutes, but as always the team dug in and found the energy and commitment, and we started to look like we would end up winning.
In extra time I thought Leatherhead were the better team and more likely to score but alas the ball just would not go in. To lose on penalties is harsh, but the law of averages says we had to sometime. No fault of Jon Coke for missing his penalty. He had the bottle under extreme pressure to volunteer to take one and that takes guts.
Folkestone should and would have won the league if they did not have ten points deducted. So to go there and not lose in 120 minutes was a great achievement for our young side. I would have loved to have won the play-offs but deep down I think in the long term it was a blessing in disguise not to make it this year.
Most teams who get promoted have to change over half their team (look at Kingstonian this year) but I am glad that this group of players will still all be together next season when I am confident we will make it to the play-offs again. It will not be easy as most teams will now be looking out for Leatherhead so it will take a lot of hard work. Congratulations to Mick and his staff (all seven of them) for putting the club back on the map and thank you to the most loyal and enthusiastic supporters I have known in all my time as a football secretary."

Amen to that!

The day after the night before...
Reflections....
Great photos of last night from Simon Roe can be seen here

Manager Mick Sullivan's thoughts about last night :
"Obviously everyone was very disappointed last night. The players gave their all, and on another night it would have been enough. I congratulate Folkestone FC and Manager Neil Cugley for a fantastic comeback in the second half to even the game up. I’m sure all the supporters saw a very quick competitive game which in the end went to the wire. I think we have shown over the season we have the making of a very good side which does play an attractive type of football.
I’m hoping that the experience of this type of game will hold us in good stead for next season and the disappointment will give us the hunger to have another go. Last but not least a very big thank you to the Players, Supporters, and Directors for the support given to myself and the Management team over this season, this has give us the desire and tools to hopefully go one better next year."

And some season-ending words from Chairman Peter Ashdown:

"I would like to extend an enormous 'thank you' to all Tanners supporters who travelled to Folkestone on Tuesday evening for the play off semi-final. We outnumbered the home support, with green scarves all around the ground, and witnessed a truly great performance by our side who were the better team on the night even allowing for periods of the second half when we were under enormous sustained pressure imposed by a very fine Folkestone side. The whole club is rightly proud of Mick and his squad who have quite simply put an enormous number of smiles on a lot of Tanners supporter's faces these last few months. The supporters deserve equal credit for their enthusiasm, and time and money they have spent supporting the side all season,
encapsulated by the Green Army's march on Folkestone, when typically our supporters were well behaved, good natured, sporting and in fine voice. It was a proud night for us all - next year let's go one step further!"

And lastly I received an e-mail from a Wealdstone fan today who said:
"Sorry to see you missed out in the play-offs. Sounds like it was a good game. From seeing the effort and team spirit you have at Leatherhead against us in the Championship cup final I'm sure the team will bounce back in style next year. If I remember rightly you have a young team there so the expereince of the [Ryman] cup final and the disappointment of missing out in the play-offs can, and will, stand them in good stead. Now they have the taste of the play-offs this will only spur them on next season. All the best to you and your team for the close season and good luck in keeping the squad together."

So that's it for another season...but keep your eye on the website for developments from the Grove during the close season.

A glorious end..
Folkestone Invicta 2 - 2 (a.e.t) Leatherhead
(Folkestone win 5-3 on penalties)
The Tanners magnificent season came to a heartbreaking end when they lost in a penalty shoot out in this play-off semi-final final. The boys in Green were more than a match for their opponents, dominating the first half and deservedly going in to the break 2-0 up from two superb headers from Boults.
Folkestone came out fighting in the second half and a couple of moments of defensive indecision saw the home side draw level. Into extra time and again the Tanners were the better side, hitting the post and squandering a couple of glorious chances right at the end. Onto the lottery of penalties and unfortunately it was our turn for heart break. Jon Coke was superb all evening, ironic that he was the man to have his penalty saved. A full match report will be posted shortly.
It was a fantastic display from the Tanners, each and every player and member of the management team can be proud of themselves, not just for last night, but for a memorable season.
The season may be over, but the journey has only just begun...

Dreaming on...
Folkestone Invicta v Leatherhead
Ryman League Division One South - play-off semi-final
Tuesday 27th April 7.45pm

And so we make a return visit to Folkestone, only this time the stakes are much higher. This is the real deal. A chance to get to the play-off final on Saturday, and then who knows?
The club are running a coach for supporters who don't want to make their own way there. It will leave the Grove at 5.15pm promptly, if you want to reserve a seat please call Dick on 07813 834739. For those that are making their own way, here's how to get there. See you there!

Monday 26th April 20.00

The dream lives on
Leatherhead 1 - 1 Walton Casuals

Apologies for the delay but I was unavoidably 250 miles away. A fantastic day for all Tanners fans as we progress to the play-offs. Full report here. Onto Folkestone on Tuesday night!

To the wire
Leatherhead v Walton Casuals
Ryman League Division One South - Saturday 24th April 3pm
So....Fleet's 3-0 win tonight means that the fifth play-off position will be decided on Saturday. If we beat Walton Casuals we get the spot. If we don't...well let's not focus on that. Hopefully a big crowd at the Grove will spur the lads on to a win.
Thursday 22nd April 22.00

Mick reflects + important news about Saturday for supporters
I asked Mick for his thoughts as we approach the vital match against Walton Casuals this Saturday:
"We now move on to the final game of the season with at least something to play for - which certainly wasn’t expected two months ago. Hopefully the supporters will get behind the lads this Saturday and spur them on to victory. It’s a shame that Walton Casuals are the team we have to beat to get there as they are one of my old clubs which would be disappointing if they went down on the back of our success as I still have many friends at the club.
Moving on, I would like to thank everyone from Leatherhead FC for making the management and the players welcome this season and hopefully we can pay everyone back by us reaching the play-offs. Also I'm hoping lots of the supporters will turn up for the awards in the club house afterwards to see the season out together."

On the subject of awards there will be an our annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday after the game against Walton Casuals - starting at about 6.15pm. As usual we will be announcing the Players Player of the Year and the Player voted by the Supporters as the best this season. Plus other awards? Who knows?
We will be proudly displaying the Champions Trophy won by ressies as well as the Isthmian League Cup and as a mark of our appreciation of everyone's support, it will all be followed by a FREE fish and chip supper for everyone at about 7pm.
Thursday 22nd April 19.00

Second string, third place
Well done to the Reserves
The Reserves beat Tonbridge Angels 3-2 at Fetcham Grove last night to seal third place in the Suburban Premier League (behind Sutton United and AFC Wimbledon). Many congratulations to all those involved on and off the field, it's been an excellent campaign.
Wednesday 21st April 18.45

One to go
Corinthian-Casuals 0 - 2 Leatherhead
The Tanners laid a ghost to rest tonight at one of our bogey grounds, with a strong second half performance that saw a Chris Boulter goal give us the lead, and Jon Coke's penalty seal the points. This leaves us needing to win our final game against Walton Casuals this coming Saturday to guarantee a play-off position, so it's still in our own hands. But if Fleet fail to win against Godalming on Thursday night we should be home and dry before Saturday. Full report here. League table updated.
Tuesday 20th April 20.20

The final countdown
Corinthian-Casuals v Leatherhead
Ryman League Division One South - Tuesday 20th April 7.45pm
Take a deep breath it's going to be a tense week - what Sir Alex quaintly refers to as 'squeaky bum time'. But I think we all know what he means. Directions to Corinthians ground in Tolworth are here. Let's get behind the lads, let's get that victory and put the pressure back on Fleet and Godalming. Remember, it's still in our own hands! Twitter updates as usual.
Monday 19th April 20.15

Merstham 0 - 0 Leatherhead
Both sides had chances to take all three points, on the day neither side showed the quality to do so, the points were therefore shared. We looked tired and a bit one dimensional, devoid of creativity from those who usually produce it. Only Boults and Colin Harris can really say that they did the business today. In the end we should be grateful for one point, unfortunately our play-off rivals didn't show such reluctance and all got full points from their games today. We need to regroup, and get ourselves back on track for the final two games. As supporters we need to get behind the lads, we know they've got the quality, so let's keep the faith.
Saturday 17th April 20.00

Strength through unity
Merstham v Leatherhead
Ryman League Division One South - Saturday 17th April 3pm
Tomorrow's game at Moatside is really rather important as far as Tanners fans are concerned, so hopefully we will turn up in numbers to cheer the side on. The good news is that the team have had a chance to have a break from three games a week, and rest up - when was the last time that happened? It won't be easy, but if we keep playing our natural game we will be fine. League table updated following last night's scores:

Met Police 2 - 1 Burgess Hill Town
Sittingbourne 0 - 1 Godalming Town
Walton & Hersham 1 - 1 Folkestone Invicta

Travel details for tomorrow are here. See you there! As ever, score updates in Twitter window.
Friday 16th April 14.00

Mick reflects...
I caught up with manager Mick Sullivan the morning after the night before:
"It was very disappointing last night, we played well but got punished on the break. Unfortunately you have to take your chances when they come and we didn’t do that last night. We have to take defeat on the chin and move onto the next game at Merstham this Saturday, and hopefully get a result."
Wednesday 14th April 18.00

Leatherhead 0 - 1 Walton & Hersham
Ryman League Division One South
Most football fans will know the old adage about needing to take your chances when you are on top, and so it proved tonight. The Tanners played some delightful passing football in the first half in particular, but failed to convert two gilt edged chances. Greg's free-kick smacked into the bar, Walton & Hersham hung on for dear life, and didn't you just guess what happened next? They broke away and popped one in. The Tanners will rightly feel hard done by, because frankly they outplayed W&H, but there's no need to be downhearted, our rivals for the play-offs failed to take advantage of our loss in their games, so it's still all to play for. We looked a bit tired at the end so it's rest up and onto Saturday's game at Merstham. If we keep playing like tonight, and don't panic, we'll be OK. League table updated. Report here.

Cheap at half the price
Leatherhead v Walton & Hersham
Ryman League Division One South - Tuesday 13th April k.o. 7.45pm
All games are vital for the Tanners at this stage. Can we keep the winning run going against local rivals W&H? Let's hope so, and also let's hope for a bumper Tuesday night crowd at Fetcham Grove - don't forget it's half price admission so spread the word and let's get behind the lads as we head for the finishing straight...
Tuesday 13th April 07.00

Reserves update
Leatherhead Reserves 2 - 2 Uxbridge Reserves
(a.e.t. Uxbridge win 4-3 on penalties)
The reserves lost their Suburban League Cup semi-final on penalties on Saturday against Uxbridge. Leading  2-1 with 35 minutes to go, we had a player sent off for a second bookable offence. Our ten men couldn't hold out and the game went to extra time with the scores 2-2. They did hold on for pens but went down 4-3 on penalties.
Monday 12th April 17.00

Club announcement
"Leatherhead FC is delighted to announce that midfield playmaker Mark Simmons has signed a two year contract. We have been impressed by Marks play, fitness and attitude since he returned from a long injury lay off. He sets a great example to all the younger players in the team which is one of the main reasons the club offered him a contract. This is just another step in the direction the club want to take in their ambition to become a top non league club again."
Sunday 11th April 20.00

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside...
Eastbourne Town 0 - 4 Leatherhead
We took a while to settle down, but once Simmo's 30 yard screamer had smacked into the back of the net, we were never going to lose this. Greg Andrews rifled home the second after typically selfless work by Kev Terry (who had a great game in general). A generous penalty for us was hammered home by Cokey, and Greg bagged his second in the final minute. We came, we saw, we did the job. Fourth place in table consolidated. Report here.
Saturday 10th April 18.30

Eastbourne Town v Leatherhead
Ryman League Division One South - Saturday 10th April k.o. 3pm
The Tanners travel to the seaside. Eastbourne are trying to maintain their Ryman status, we are trying to maintain the play-off push. Should be interesting. There are still a few place on the coach leaving at 11.45 this morning from Fetcham Grove. Contact Geoff Corner on 07762 831142. Score updates this afternoon in the Twitter window.
Saturday 10th April 08.30

Looking ahead...admission prices slashed
Eastbourne Town are the next stop for the Tanners roadshow, but looking further ahead to next week and to our next home game on Tuesday evening (April 13th). We entertain local rival Walton & Hersham, and the club has decided to halve admission prices for this game only in order to encourage as many supporters to come along as possible. Prices on the night will be:
Adults - £4
Over 60s/Students - £2
Kids - £1(free if under 5)

So....please get the word out, encourage your neighbours, friends, relatives, well anybody really, to come along to our penultimate - and crucial - home league game. If we could get 500 it would be a cracking Tuesday night atmosphere...
Friday 9th April 09.30

And the beat goes on...
Met Police 1 - 3 Leatherhead
The Tanners secure another brilliant victory - the second two-goal margin against the Plod in two days. Going a goal down within seconds of the kick-off, the lads fought back though goals from Luke Pigden, new man Gabriel and Simmo. Superb! Full report here. Just look at the league table, take a deep breath, and tell yourself that it really is the Tanners in 4th spot. Savour the moment.
Thursday 8th April 22.10

Mick reflects...
After last night's crucial victory over the Metropolitan Police (full match report here) this is what manager Mick Sullivan had to say:
"Not the greatest performance on the night but effective in the end. The Met Police were up for the game and deserved more out of it for their efforts, but yet again the lads battled to the end and got their reward. I just hope we can hang on and get to the play-offs which is what the whole squad and supporters deserve. Let’s hope we can put in another performance against a very strong Met Police side this Thursday - then who knows what we can then achieve. The support we are getting from the fans really boosts the players, so let's hope for a big turnout for the remaining games"

Also, check out the updated Reserves fixture list which is looking as busy as the first teams. Lastly, the U-18 had a fine 4-1 away win at Horsham YMCA last night, you can read the report here.
Wednesday 7th April 17.00

Leatherhead 2 - 0 Metropolitan Police
A massive win for the Tanners against a well organised and strong Met Police side who pressed and hassled and stopped the Tanners playing their usual passing game. In all honesty we never really got going, but we kept working hard and our perserverance paid off. Looking back, a fantastic point blank save from Colin Harris can be seen as the turning point half way through the second half. The Tanners created three chances, Tommy hit the post, and then Kev Terry headed in from Luke's wicked free kick. Tommy's pace, skill and strength created the second for Kev Terry and the job was done.
As I say, a huge victory as the push for the play-offs keeps going - we are back up to fifth position. Full report to come. Onto the Plod part II on Thursday.
Tuesday 6th April 22.00

Tuesday 30th March k.o. 7.45pm
The games are coming thick and fast now, and tomorrow sees us off to Kent for the first of two consecutive away matches in that county (Ashford on Saturday being the second).
Can we keep the momentum going? Can we expunge the demons of that awful trip (and result) to Ramsgate late last year in the FA Trophy? Given our recent form, no reason why not. Watch the Twitter for updates...
Monday 29th March 19.00

Sunday 28th March 08.30

No let up...
Leatherhead 6 - 1 Dulwich Hamlet
No arguing with our focus today, we hammered Dulwich first half to be 4-0 up at half-time, the pick of the goals being Rob Hill's delicious curler from 30 yards, and a breathtakingly fast counter attack led by Elliott that resulted in Tommy sidefooting home. Quality. A word also for Colin Harris who kept us in it with some great saves, make no mistake Dulwich were no mugs and played some neat stuff themselves. Second half we naturally took our foot off the pedal, and tired limbs started showing through on a heavy pitch. We only put the pedal downagain once Dulwich had snatched a consolation goal, with Corbs muddying his awful pink boots with a tap in, and a comical own-goal made it an afternoon to forget for the Hamlet, but one to savour for the Tanners and their fans, who showed their appreciation as the cup was paraded in front of us (see below). Full report to follow. Saturday 27th March 18.30

Cup final programmes
Geoff Corner has got hold of a couple of spare programme from last Wednesday's famous victory against Wealdstone. If you want one, please see Geoff, first come, first served....

Back to business

Time to put the champagne flutes away, and get the working boots on. Dulwich are always tricky opponents and tomorrow will be no different. Should be a lively encounter. Goal updates in Twitter window.

Mick reflects + updates
The report on last night's cup victory against Wealdstone can be found here.

I also managed to get Mick's reaction to last night, here's what he had to say:
"The day after the night before I feel a little worse for wear as I managed to get back to the club at about midnight to have a few drinks with some of the supporters. I really hope the players enjoyed their night along with the supporters - they deserved it.
But we must now focus on the fifth spot which is what we have been trying for ever since the run began two months ago. I really don't want an 'after the lords mayor's show' performance on Saturday. These next two games will show if we have enough in the tank to get there.
Last but not least a big thank you to all the supporters for turning up in numbers - it really pushed the players onto victory.
See you all Saturday!!!!!!!!"

Lastly, and on the subject of Imber Court, the away game against the Met Police has been arranged for Thursday 8th April - two days after we play them at home!!
Thursday 25th March 19.00

Oh what a night! Tanners victorious!
Leatherhead 0 - 0 Wealdstone (a.e.t. Leatherhead win 4-3 on penalties)
Tanners win the Isthmian League Cup 2009/10
We came. We played. We conquered...The Tanners picked up their first real silverware in 31 years by beating higher league Wealdstone in the final of the Isthmian league Cup (a.k.a Championship Manager cup).
The report will be posted shortly, suffice to say we deserved to win on the balance of play but it had to go to the proverbial penalty shoot-out to decide it. We kept our bottle, and there was unconstrained joy at the final whistle.
A testament to the focus, determination, fitness and ability of this group of players who represented the green shirt with pride and distinction.
This morning everything looks slightly greener!!
Time to enjoy the victory, rest up and then onto the Dulwich match at the Grove on Saturday, where, I suspect, the Isthmian League Cup trophy will be much in evidence.
Thursday 25th March 07.00

Tonight's the night
Leatherhead v Wealdstone - Isthmian League Cup Final
Imber Court k.o. 7.45
Just writing the word 'final' is fantastic. Let's enjoy the night! Score updates in the Twitter window.
Wednesday 24th March 17.00

Mick looks forward...
I sought manager Mick Sullivan's thoughts on tomorrow's big match:

"Both the players and myself haven't really had time to think about the final as the games have come thick and fast for us - and looking at the Wealdstone fixture list it's probably the same for them!

I really hope the team performs to its ability on the night and gives the supporters something to sing and shout about.
It's going to be a tough final against higher opposition doing well in the division above.

But I have full confidence in this squad that they will give their all on the night, and hopefully make the club and supporters proud of them.

I'm hoping that we get a good crowd and atmosphere to help make the evening a night to remember.

My hope is to see as many Leatherhead supporters and Youth there in good voice and numbers - it's really appreciated by the players and management."

Tuesday 23rd March 17.00

Report on Saturday's game

...against Sittingbourne can be found here. Only two days to go!!
Monday 22nd March 19.30

Onwards and upwards
Leatherhead 4 - 2 Sittingbourne
In the end it was a solid rather than spectacular performance that saw the Tanners home today. Understandable given recent exertions and a heavy pitch that was sapping already tired limbs. But sheer work rate, focus and will-power won it for us, admittedly helped by the sending-off of the Sittingbourne goalkeeper in the first-half. A vital win sees us move up another place, with the knowledge that we now have until Wednesday to rest up before the next - vital - game. Report to follow.
Saturday 20th March 21.00

Leatherhead v Sittingbourne
Ryman League Division One South - Saturday 20th March k.o. 3pm
Blimey. You go away on holiday for a week and you find it's all been happening whilst you are away. Still, at least I'm back for the cup final on Wednesday. But more of that in due course. Today sees us pitted against Sittingbourne who are jammed up next to us in the league table and no doubt as desperate for the three points as we are. They'll also be seeking revenge for the 3-0 victory the Tanners achieved at their place. So...all in all it should be a cracker. Live goal updates on the Twitter window on the right.
Talking about Wednesday the club are organising a coach to Imber Court, it will leave Fetcham Grove about 18.30 (although The Grove bar will be open for liveners from 17.30). However, we need 40 people to make it viable at £5 a throw so please let Dick know if you want to go on the coach at TODAY'S MATCH.
I've also been updating all the fixtures for first, reserve and
u-18 youth teams, and you'll find the match report links on the fixtures page as well. Phew!

NOTICE TO ALL OFFICIAL SITE READERS
Unfortunately the website will not be updated for the next week or so because I am going on holiday, and it's not possible to get anyone else to do it as the software needed only sits on my laptop.
So sorry about that, best of luck to the various Tanners teams over the next week, you never know I may return to the UK with news of our first cup final in years.
Rest assured that normal service will be resumed the weeknd after next. Thanks, David.

Whyteleafe report
Is here.
Just one other bit of news, the Leatherhead Sunday team play their Intermediate County Cup semi-final at Fetcham Grove this coming Sunday 14th March k.o. 10.30am. It's against Whitehorse Wanderers and all supporters are welcome!

Mick reflects...
I sought manager Mick Sullivan's views after last night's excellent victory at Whyteleafe:
"At the moment we are learning to grind points out of games against bigger and stronger opposition with perhaps not the performance we are capable of. But it's still two great wins back-to-back which keeps us in the hunt for fifth place. Now on to Thursday which pits us against Aveley who are the form team of the Ryman Premier.
We need to put in a performance like the away win at Fleet and match Aveley in effort and skill, then we have a good chance of progressing which would be fantastic for the club and supporters. I must also congratulate the Reserves for beating Sutton United last night at the Grove - hopefully they can progress in their cup competition and add to the good all-round spirit in the club and dressing room."

As Mick says above, last night saw the Reserves progress to the quarter-final of the Suburban League Challenge Cup by defeting Sutton United 2-1 at the Grove. Steve Barilli grabbed a brace as the defence held firm. The next round is against North Greenford United this Saturday at Fetcham Grove k.o. 3pm.
Wednesday 10th March 08.00

Fallen 'Leafe
Whyteleafe 1 - 2 Leatherhead
The self-belief continues to grow with this superb away win against local rivals Whyteleafe. Greg Andrews gave the Tanners a first-half lead from a free kick, and although the 'Leafe equalised just before half-time, Tommy came to the rescue and grabbed the winner. Full report to follow. Quality!
Tuesday 9th March 21.50

Forthcoming fixture + updates
Whyteleafe v Leatherhead
Ryman League Division One South - 9th March k.o. 7.45pm
Another game against mid-table rivals - this time the 'Leafe. Always a competitive game, tomorrow night will be no different. Any team put out by old friend Stuart Massey is going to be well drilled, but the Tanners can travel knowing that they are hitting good form at the right time, with a strong sense of confidence and belief. As long as we keep playing football like we have done against Fleet and Ramsgate then we should be OK. Travel directions here. For those who can't go, watch the Twitter window for updates.

The report from Saturday's game can be found here.

Don't forget the Reserves also have a game tomorrow night (Tuesday 9th) - it's at Fetcham Grove kick-off 7.45pm - against Sutton United in the Suburban Cup.

And the u-18s team have a home fixture (at River Lane) this coming Thursday March 11th against Burgess Hill Town k.o. 7 45pm. On the other hand you might be at the Grove for a rather important semi-final game.

Lastly, a date has been arranged for the next round of the Southern Combination Cup
- we're playing away at Molesey on Thursday (yes, another Thursday) 1st April kick-off 7.45pm. Be nice to visit Walton Road again, I've missed our trip to play The Moles...
Monday 7th March 18.45

Ram raided
Leatherhead 3 - 1 Ramsgate
A quality performance from the Tanners. On top for much of the first half, we couldn't convert our dominance into goals despite golden opportunities and a brilliant save from the Rams keeper. The second half saw a reinvigorated Ramsgate who pressed hard and took the lead from some hesitation in the Tanners otherwise impressive defence. This is when we showed real character and we basically played ourselves back into it. Orchestrated by Simmo, the glory goes to Greg Andrews for his three smartly taken goals, the pick of which was an exocet of a free kick from 25 yards. He also found time to hit the bar with another free-kick. But really this was a great team effort and keeps the momentum going. Well done lads, great performance!
Saturday 6th March 20.30

Update
Leatherhead v Ramsgate - Ryman League Division One South - 6th March 3pm
A big game for the Tanners tomorrow against a team sitting alongside us in the table, so both teams are looking for three points to provide momentum for a push up the table. Should be interesting. Can we keep replicate the form from last night or will it be a case of 'the game after the night before'?
Let's not forget the Reserves who had their own cup victory last night - they are away at AFC Wimbledon (playing at Walton Casuals). Incidentally an excellent report on the victory at Cove is now on the Fixtures page courtesy of coach Brett Walker who shows he's just as good with the pen as he is with his feet.
And lastly the U-18 Youth team drew 1-1 away ay Eastbourne Town on Wednesday and again you can read the report on the Fixtures page.
Over and out.
Friday 5th March 18.00

Cup draw - home semi-final for Tanners
Following our victory over Fleet last night, we have been drawn against Ryman Premier side Aveley in the semi-final of the Championship Manager Cup (a.k.a Isthmian League Cup). The tie will take place next Thursday 11th March 7.45pm at Fetcham Grove. The other semi-final will see Croydon Athletic host the winners of Sittingbourne or Wealdstone.
Sounds good!!
Friday 5th March 15.00

Fleet Town victory
Report here.
Friday 5th March 13.00

Mick reflects...
Manager Mick Sullivan has his say on last night's fanatastic cup win at Fleet:
"The team and I were really gutted to lose the game in the manner we did last Saturday against Horsham YMCA, and even more disappointed not to get the chance to re-deem ourselves against Merstham on Tuesday.
But the squad showed real character against a very strong and mobile Fleet side who really wanted to progress to the semi-final. We can't rest on our laurels now - we have to go and dig deep within our squad, and not get complacent to get three points against a strong physical Ramsgate side on Saturday.
I was also delighted with a fantastic result for the Reserves last night against a full strength Cove side
[reserves won 2-1 in the Southern Combination Cup]. I'm pleased for the managerment Barry, John and Brett and the players who have all stepped up to the mark when needed for me this season and it's likely we'll need them to do so again before the season finishes."
Friday 5th March 07.15

Fleet Town 0 - 3 Leatherhead
(Isthmian League Cup Quarter-Final)
A superb performance by the Tanners at high-flying Fleet secures us a semi-final place in the Isthmian League Cup. Tommy hammered home the opener, and Kev Terry scored the sceond just after half-time. Boults sealed it with a third. Can't wait to read the report. I wonder who we will be playing?

Re-arranged league fixtures
Home game v Merstham - Thursday 18th March
Away v Corinthian-Casuals - Tuesday 20th April
Wednesday 3rd March 18.00

It's the same old song...tonight's Merstham game called off
This is now getting very boring. The referee who inspected the pitch this afternoon decided it wasn't playable, so once more we have had to postpone the home game against Merstham. Tedious.
Tuesday 2nd March 19.00

Update
Leatherhead v Merstham - Ryman League Division One South - Tuesday 2nd March 7.45pm
There is a large pool of water at the gate entrance end of the pitch so there will be a pitch inspection tomorrow, but hopes are high - having seen the weather forecast - that it will drain away and the game will be on. Watch the Twitter window for updates tomorrow.
Looking ahead, the club is running a coach to the away fixture against 'league-leaders-till-they -had-10-points-deducted' Folkestone on Saturday 13th March. It will leave the Grove at 12 noon prompt, so if you want a place (price £10) please put your name down on the booking sheet that will be at the bar from tomorrow night, or have a word with Geoff Corner.

Horsham YMCA 4 - 2 Leatherhead
The Tanners unbeaten run went the shape of a pear this afternoon. Despite holding the lead twice through goals from Greg Andrews and then Tommy Hutchings, we weren't able to hold on. No doubt the official report will tell all.
Saturday 27th February 18.00

Update - YMCA on, Reserves off (but...)
Latest update is that YMCA have advised game is on, no pitch inpsection planned. The Reserves game at Fetcham Grove this afternoon is OFF, but a hastily arranged friendly against Epsom & Ewell will take place on the back field behind the Grove with a kick-off time of 2.30pm.
Saturday 27th February 11.30

It's fun to play at the...
Horsham YMCA v Leatherhead - Ryman League Division One South - Saturday 27th February 3pm
No news from Horsham YMCA so at the moment it looks like today's league game is proceeding. A chance for the Tanners to wipe the 6-2 home defeat a few weeks ago from the memory banks and maintain the push up the table. Directions here.
Saturday 27th February 09.30

Good news indeed
Leatherhead Football Club are very pleased to announce that star central defender Chris Boulter has signed a two-year contract with the club.
Football secretary Geoff Corner commented "everyone at the club has been very impressed by not only Chris's consistent displays on the field but by his attitude off it, which is a great example to the other players. We are trying to build a team that will get us into the Ryman Premier, and we need to get our best players committing themselves to the club. Chris is only 26 and his best years are still in front of him. He has signed until May 2011 with a one year option.
The club are working very closely with manager Mick Sullivan to ensure that we are all heading in the same direction and feel this is a positive move."

Friday 26th February 15.30

Guess what
Yup, tonight's cup game at Fleet Town has been called off due to excessive water on the pitch. This is now getting beyond a joke. We'll try again next Thursday (4th March). Onto Horsham YMCA on Saturday for a league game. Hopefully.
Thursday 25th February 18.00

Cup trail
Fleet Town v Leatherhead - Isthmian League Cup quarter-final - Thursday 25th February 7.45pm
At the moment it looks like tonight's cup tie with Fleet is proceeding, but there is a lot of rain forecast for this afternoon, so watch this space for any updates (or the Twitter window on the right). Let's hope it goes ahead and the travelling Tanners have something to celebrate.
Thursday 25th February 07.15

Game off
This evening's league fixture against Corinthian-Casuals has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch. Stay warm and dry at home! Watch this space about Thursday's Isthmian League Cup quarter-final clash at Fleet Town.
Tuesday 23rd February 15.00

Tolworth toil
Corinthian-Casuals v Leatherhead - Ryman League Division One South - Tuesday 23rd February 7.45pm
Hopefully tonight's game will go ahead as we are rapidly running out of Tuesdays to play on before the season has to end on the 24th April. There will be a pitch inpsection at 12 noon today to see if this evening's game can go ahead, looking at the weather forecast you wouldn't bet your house on it. Watch this space (and the Tweeter window on the right).
Tuesday 23rd February 07.30

Update
Saturday's postponed game against Walton & Hersham will now be played on Tuesday 13th April.
Monday 22nd February 17.45

Game off
This afternoon's fixture against Walton & Hersham has been called off because the Fetcham Grove pitch is too wet in some places, too frozen in others.
The reserve game away at Ashford (Middx) is still on.
Saturday 20th February 11.50

Swans by the river
Leatherhead v Walton & Hersham - Ryman League Division One South - Saturday 20th February 3pm
If it goes ahead this could be a real treat. The Swans are there or thereabouts in play-off terms, the Tanners are unbeaten in five and on a roll. The only trouble is the weather. There will be a pitch inspection at the Grove at 11.45am, but the considered view is that the chances are less than 50/50. Watch this space or maybe the Twitter window for an update as soon as I hear in the morning.
Friday 19th February 18.00

Youth tonight is off
Tonight's u-18 Youth game against Lewes is postponed as the River Lane pitch lives up to it's name.
Thursday 18th February 18.30

Mick reflects...
After last night's stunning win over Worthing, manager Mick Sullivan cautions against getting carried away:
" We are getting spoilt with good performances at the moment along with good honest graft from every individual. The team spirit is at an all time high which shows on the field of play. I really hope the boys don't get complacent with our good run, as Walton & Hersham will be a different prospect - very strong and powerful and with their own ambitions to get in the play-offs - so it's a very big test for us this Saturday. Players will need to show their character if we mean to get into the top six this season.
As for the injuries, Marc Elston has a thigh strain picked up last night - not sure regarding him this Saturday.
On the positive front Dom O'Shea and Kev Terry should be involved this weekend and maybe Matt Francis who had a sore groin. Hassan Nyang should be ready to get back involved next week after a longer term injury with his calf. Last but not least, we have a tough programme next week with four games in quick succession so the whole squad will be used to its full potential and hopefully some will make a clear statement to the Management team.
"

In other news, the Isthmian League Cup quarter-final game away against Fleet Town will be played next week on Thursday 25th February.
Wednesday 17th February 18.15

Sussex best
Worthing 1 - 3 Leatherhead
A quality performance from the Tanners at play-off contenders Worthing. First-half goals from Greg Andrews, Tommy Hutchings and Marc Elston seal the points and extend the unbeaten run. The rise up the league table continues. Full report here.
Tuesday 16th February 21.40

Reserves OFF
Not surprisingly given the amount of rain we've had today, the Fetcham Grove pitch is unplyable so the Reserves can stay at home and keep warm and dry, whilst watching the Twitter updates on the first team game at Worthing (see right)
Tuesday 16th February 18.00

Rebel yell
Worthing v Leatherhead - Ryman League Division One South - Tuesday 16th February 7.45pm
A tough midweek journey for the Tanners, but we have been showing real spirit, fight and not a small amount of skill over the last few games, so we should have nothing to fear. The Rebels have been play-off contenders most of the season, so this will be a good test for the men in green.
Tuesday 16th February 07.30

Super Sunday
Latest Leatherhead Sunday exploits are here.
Sunday 14th February 18.00

Spread the love
Latest from Camp Henders is positive. He has not done a Cashley Cole and broken his foot. The x-ray showed that it is badly bruised, and Henders is confident that he will be back playing in four to six weeks.
Sunday 14th February 10.45

On a level
Burgess Hill Town 1 - 1 Leatherhead
A hard fought draw for the Tanners, we had some great chances to score - Tommy and Marc Elston both managed to put the ball over the bar from three yards when it would have been easier to score. Mind you, the Hillians had some opportunities as well. But the unbeaten run goes on, but at some cost as we lost Henders first half to what looked a very painful foot injury. Report here.
The Reserves drew 2-2 at home to Basingstoke Town.

Saturday 13th February 18.15

Update part 3
Still no news from BHT so assume the game is on. Directions can be found here.
For those not wanting to travel the Reserve team game at Fetcham Grove is definitely ON.
Don't forget you can watch score updates on this afternoon's game in the Twitter panel to the right.
Saturday 13th February 09.30

Update part 2
Leatherhead v Burgess Hill Town - Saturday 13th February - 3pm
No news from Burgess Hill Town which is a good sign.
The reserves face an 11am pitch inspection at Fetcham Grove.
Watch this space!
Friday 12th February 16.00

Update
The draw for the Quarter-Finals of the Isthmian League Cup (a.k.a Championship Manager Cup) has been made, and we are away to Fleet Town. Date still to be advised. The other ties are:
Croydon Athletic vs. Lowestoft Town
Concord Rangers/Billericay Town or Sittingbourne vs. Wealdstone
Aveley vs. Canvey Island

The reserves have arranged the next round of their Suburban League Cup campaign - it's against Sutton United and will take place next Tuesday 16th February at Fetcham Grove.

In terms of this weekend's games, the Fetcham Grove pitch is pretty solid so there's likely to be a pitch inspection for the reserves game against Basingstoke Town. No reports yet from Burgess Hill Town for the first team's game, but I think there's been snow down that way and it's still pretty chilly. So watch this space...
Thursday 11th February 19.30

Too casual
Leatherhead 1 - 0 Corinthian-Casuals
These are the sorts of games that you need to win if you're going to push up the table, and before Christmas we might have struggled to hold out. But this is the new Tanners - a side that works hard for each other, digs in deep and grinds out excellent victories like tonight's. The Casuals looked good on the ball and were pacy upfront, but truth to tell we restricted them to only half chances. The midfield worked their socks off, as did Tommy up front. Simmo is now on some sort of goal streak, his calmly placed, side-footed volley breaking the deadlock just before half-time. Marc could have put us out of our misery just before the end, but a bobble put paid to that. Onwards and upwards, we travel to Burgess Hill Town on Saturday in good heart. Report here.
Tuesday 9th February 22.00

Update
As per Twitter message below, the Ryman League game against Corinthian-Casuals is on tonight - kick-off 7.45pm as usual. I will try and Twitter any scores tonight for those who can't get down to the Grove.

In other news, the club has released Josh Smith and has signed Luke Pigden from Godalming Town. Luke is a midfield player and was previously with AFC Wimbledon. He goes straight into the squad tonight.

Lastly, I have updated the upcoming Youth team fixtures.
Tuesday 9th Feb 18.00

Twitter updates
As I can't access the website during the day, I have set up Twitter so I can update you immediately on pitch inspections and scores etc.

Mick reflects + other news
I spoke with manager Mick Sullivan about Saturday's 7-1 demolition of Whitstable:
" I was very pleased with the performance on Saturday even though it was a bit frantic to begin with as Whitstable gave as good as they got. I think we deserved a little bit of luck and then we made our own to score the seven goals. I was dissapointed we conceded a goal as the defence deserved a clean sheet - having said that the ref had a major part to play but to be fair to him he had a decent game otherwise.
We mustn't get complacent now as a manager I've seen too many poor performances after the 'Lord Mayor's show'. I totally believe this squad wants to make amends after such an inconsistent start this season and they want to prove to the supporters they have desire and skill.
I hope we can carry this on to propel us up to the fifth play-off spot. As for the cup, again a little bit of luck and a home draw and who knows? Last but not least, I must pay tribute to the squad players who come in and do their business for the first team from the Reserve team set up."

Ryman League Cup quarter-final draw update - apparently a second team have played an ineligible player so the draw has been delayed until later this week - probably Wednesday.

Pitch update for tomorrow night's game against Cornthian-Casuals - pitch still pretty wet, no decision on whether a pitch inspection will be needed, Gerald will take a look first early tomorrow morning. Watch this space (although I won't be able to update till about 6pm).

U-18s Youth team lost 2-4 against KIngstonian yesterday, read the report here.

A sign of the times...
A very interesting notice was posted on the Ryman League website last night about the leaders of our division Folkestone. It will impact all the teams in the division especially those chasing promotion and a play-off place. Read it here.
Sunday 7th February 09.30

Oystermen prised apart
Leatherhead 7 - 1 Whitstable Town
It was one of those afternoons, the match report (which is here) will give the glorious details, but in the first half in particular, the Tanners played with a fluency and above all tempo that at times was a joy to watch. 4-0 at half time was game over, the second forty-five was a stroll, but man of the match must go to Matt Francis who bagged four. How Tommy failed to score is a mystery but his work rate was phenomenal. As was Elliott Thompson's, who put in another tireless performance. Marc Elston was a constant threat, Simmo ruled the roost in the pudding, sorry, middle of the park. The Oystermen were very poor, but you've still got to do the business, which is exactly what the Tanners did today - with added relish.
The game on Tuesday evening against Corinthian-Casuals must be a bit of a doubt, watch this space for news.
Saturday 6th February 17.30

Game ON!!
The Fetcham Grove pitch has passed this morning's inspection, so today's match against Whitstable Town goes ahead. I don't think it's going to be possible to play the 'beautiful game' today, but as long as it's three points, who cares? See you there!
By the way, the draw for the quarter-finals of the Isthmian League Cup has been delayed as one of the teams (not us!) that has got through has been found to have played an
ineligible player. So we'll have to wait a bit longer to see who we will be playing while they sort that out.
Saturday 6th February 11.30

Tomorrow's game 50/50
Leatherhead v Whitstable Town - Ryman League Division One South - 3pm
Hopefully we will entertain the Oystermen at the Grove tomorrow afternoon, but at the moment the pitch is very wet, so there will be a pitch inspection at 11.15 Saturday morning to determine whether the game goes ahead. Let's hope so, and if it does let's hope the Tanners continue their run of good form. Watch this space.
Friday 5th February 20.30

Mick reflects + other news
I caught up with Mick Sullivan today and spoke to him about last night's fantastic Isthmian League cup win away at Godalming, here's what he had to say:
"It was a very disjointed first half performance but I suppose that's to be expected when missing two of the three central midfielders who can put their foot on the ball and control the game. But the squad tonight showed real character and rolled up their sleeves in the second half, and put in a disciplined, dogged type of performance and ground out a result - which is what was needed against a strong physical team like Godalming.
It was nice to see that we can mix it with these types of teams as it's not always possible to play the 'beautiful game' on a muddy pitch. I'm sure we are going to need a few more of these types of performances to get some more points on the board.

I'm very proud of the squad tonight as they could've folded under the pressure of the first half but there's a belief in the camp at the moment we can achieve something this season with a little bit of luck."

In terms of who we might possibly meet in the quarter-finals of the Isthmian League Cup, here's who's left:
Aveley
Lowestoft or Maidstone or Tilbury
Concord or Billericay
Canvey Island
Fleet or Horsham YMCA
Walton & Hersham or Croydon Athletic
Tonbridge or Wealdstone

We will play one of the southern teams in the quarter finals then go north or south in the semis. Not sure when the draw will take place.

Updated fixtures for the reserves and u-18s (see fixtures tabs)
Wednesday 3rd Feb 18.15

Town tamed
Godalming Town 0 -1 Leatherhead
After a tricky first half, where the Tanners did well to go into the break with the score 0-0, the second half saw a reinvigorated Tanners who looked much more up for the fight. With Henders on for the injured Dan Dean, and Hassan replaced by big Michael Corbett, we looked a much more potent force, and could have scored about five, Tommy had a couple of glorious chances that went just wide, as did Beero. As it was, Marc Elston's glorious shot from a Tommy cross was enough to settle it. We might have rode our luck at times, but this was the Tanners at their battling best, and we can take a lot of confidence from beating the high-flying Town on their own (bumpy) turf. The draw for the quarter-finals has yet to take place - as soon as we know who we will face I'll post it on here! Report here.
Tuesday 2nd February 22.00

Tonight's Reserve game off
The Fetcham Grove pitch is too soggy so tonight's reserve team encounter against Whyteleafe has been postponed.
And just to note that tonight's first team game at Godalming kicks-off at 7.30pm (not the usual 7.45pm)
Tuesday 2nd February 17.00

Heading south
Godalming Town v Leatherhead - Isthmian League Cup 4th Round - tonight 7.30pm
Yes, the Tanners head for a tasty tie against Chuck's high-flying
Godalming team. Not usually a place where we have much joy to be honest, but it's a cup game so who knows. If we play to our true potential (as we have recently) then it could be interesting. Extra time...penalties...
Tuesday 2nd February 07.00

Dates for your diary
Ryman League match away at Ramsgate is now on Tuesday 30th March. Also, we travel to play Cove (Combined Counties Premier side) in the Southern Combination Cup 2nd Round on Thursday 4th March.
Monday 1st February 20.00

Rams raid
Croydon Athletic 3 - 2 Leatherhead
By all accounts we were unlucky not to come away with at least a point. But the high-flying big-spending Rams bagged all the points and we are left nursing thoughts of "what might have been". Nonetheless it was an encouraging performance by the Tanners against a team who will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. Report here.
Sunday 31st January 13.00

Croydon Athletic is all systems "Go"
Word from Geoff is that the referee has given the all clear, so the journey over by the players and officials wasn't wasted. Game well and truly ON. Supporters best get moving then...
Saturday 30th January 13.45

Reserve game given all clear
The sun is shining on Fetcham Grove and the pitch has defrosted. Game on! News from Croydon as soon as I have it.
Saturday 30th January 12.00

Are the games on today? Read this...
Here's what's happening. All the players and officials are being asked to turn up at Croydon Athletic, as the referee will make a decision on whether the pitch is playable at 1.15pm - hopefully this will give it the longest possible opportunity to defrost.
The reserves game at Fetcham Grove against Ashford (Middx) is in doubt, again because of a frozen pitch, and there will be a pitch inspection and decision at 11am.
Watch this space for the outcome of both decisions.
Saturday 30th January 10.00

Rams away!
Croydon Athletic v Leatherhead - Ryman League Division One South - Sat 30th Jan 3pm
I know this is a trip that all Tanners fans look forward to. Yes, we are off to play the big-spending, high-flying Rams. We go with real hope based on two tremendous performances in our last two games. Let's hope it continues. I won't be there because I'm preparing for Band Night back at the Grove Bar, but no doubt Dickie will keep me abreast of the situation (incidentally Band Night is sold out so if you haven't got a ticket you won't get in).
Friday 29th January 22.00

Tanners on YouTube
A kind supporter of Bognor filmed the game on Tuesday night, see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgEDIbubt6w. Unfortunately he missed the best goal of the match (Marc Elston's) but Tommy's has been caught in all it's glory (fast forward to 5 mins 45 secs).
Thursday 28th January 20.00

Mick reflects
I spoke to Mick Sullivan today about last night's encouraging victory against Bognor, here's what he had to say:
"Again the players gave it their all against stronger opposition last night and at times outplayed a side that likes to pass the ball around. We now need to focus ourselves against Croydon Athletic - one of our toughest tests - on Saturday. If we come away with another solid performance with some sort of result we might well have turned the corner to push up the league table.
I know the players really believe they can push for the play-offs but I think it will depend on how fit we keep the squad, and with a little bit of luck we don't pick up too many injuries to key players along the way with so many games on the horizon.
But I do believe we have enough quality playing in our Reserve side along with players out on loan to cover when needed.
"
Report of the game here. To see some great photos of the Bognor game go to:

Love on the Rocks
Leatherhead 2 - 0 Bognor Regis Town (Isthmian League Cup 3rd round)
An emphatic and convincing win for the Tanners at Fetcham Grove. Solid in defence, creative in midfield, pacy and troublesome up front. What more could you want? Well work rate would be nice, and we got that in abundance too. What a difference a week in football makes. Two games in a row now with no goals conceded, and decent football being played. Bognor offered very little so we shouldn't get carried away, but the basis for moving up the table is surely there. Croydon Athletic away on Saturday will surely provide stiffer opposition than the limp Rocks performance, but if we stick to this then we'll be just fine. Our reward for the victory is an away tie in the fourth round against high-flying Godalming Town - next Tuesday 2nd February. Report here.

Rocks away!
Tanners v Bognor Regis Town - Isthmian League Cup 3rd round
After numerous postponements, the Tanners finally get the opportunity to pit themselves against higher league opposition. The Rocks are in Ryman Premier, their messageboard seems to think it will be a straightforward win for them, let's hope it's one of those special Tuesday nights at Fetcham Grove! Kick-off 7.45pm, see you there.
Tuesday 26th January 07.00

Youth victorious
The first team weren't the only winners at the weekend. The U-18s warmed up for their Ryman League cup tie against Woking this Thursday with a rather splendid 6-0 victory over Epsom Eagles. For a full report go to the

-18s tab on the Fixtures tab above.

Mick reflects on yesterday's victory
Here's what manager Mick Sullivan had to say about yesterday's win against Chatham Town:
" I'm really pleased the team responded to the changes. They played the way I've wanted them to play from the start of the season - high tempo football with work rate. I reminded them it's now got to become consistent and not just a one-off which has happened before. I can only hope they realise what a good squad of players they are, and progress to fulfil their potential. We've got to repeat yesterday's performance against Bognor and Croydon Athletic - only then will I know we have turned the corner."

Fixtures pages for u-18 Youth (cup tie against Woking this coming Thursday at River Lane) and Leatherhead Sunday (includes report of today's win) have been updated.
Sunday 24th January 19.00

Tanners stop Chats in tracks
Leatherhead 3 - 0 Chatham Town
A game which was everything Tuesday wasn't. Commitment, energy, pace, movement and passing along the ground. Tommy was always a handful, Marc skilful and pacy, the back four looked solid, Simmo ran the show from midfield - he was imperious. A game to restore your faith - and hopefully the attendances. Report here. And the reserves gained an excellent point with a 1-1 draw at Tooting & Mitcham.
Sunday 24th January 8.30

Game on
The Fetcham Grove has passed it's fitness test so it's all systems go for today's encounter against Chatham Town. See you at 3pm.
Saturday 23rd January12.00

The Chats are coming (perhaps)
Tanners v Chatham Town Saturday 23rd January 3pm
There will be a pitch inspection tomorrow morning at 11am to see if the Fetcham Grove pitch is playable. Watch this space!

Quiz answers
Just to take your mind off last night, here are the answers to the recent quiz questions (see below):
Name the two Leatherhead players (and the opponents) to have scored hat tricks in the noughties yet not finished on the winning side?
Answer - Dave Stevens @ Burgess Hill (Feb 08) & Tommy Hutchings @ Chipstead (Aug 08)
How many Leatherhead hat tricks have there been in the noughties?
20........or 21 if you include Alex Inglethorpe v Dorking in the Advertiser Trophy (2001), or 22 if you also include Alex Inglethorpe v Bookham in a pre-season friendly (2003). This is assuming that 4 and 5 goal hauls count as hat-tricks.

Which Leatherhead player holds the record for most goals in a game in the noughties?
Alex Inglethope 5 @ Wivenhoe (Jan 02)
Which game saw players from both sides record hat tricks?
Burgess Hill Town v Leatherhead (Feb 08) Steve Harper (no relation) and Dave Stevens

There's always Saturday
Tanners 2 - 6 Horsham YMCA
This was not the 'kick-start' to the season we were looking for. Apart from the first 20 minutes, we always looked second best and got severely punished by a lively YMCA side. Report here.
Tuesday 19th 22.00

Game on!!
Tanners v Horsham YMCA - tonight 7.45pm
Pitch OK, let's play football!
Tuesday 19th Jan 18.45pm

Update on tomorrow's game plus forthcoming event
The news from the Grove is encouraging - the levels on the Mole have receded, the pitch has no surface water, so the general consensus is that in the absence of any more significant rain, we could actually see a game of football at Fetcham Grove. Horsham YMCA provide the opposition, let's hope we can resume the season with a victory.

Back due to popular demand, Saturday 30th January sees the next Band Night at the Grove Bar. And what a line-up we have.

Some of you may remember local old boys Macavity's Cat, well they're back playing their home town for the first time in years! Plus local favourites The Witch Doktors and Aeroplane Blondes, with up and coming Epsom band The Traffic kicking off the evening in style.

Tickets £7 in advance from David Pope on 07500 118005 or e-mail me on david.pope3@ntlworld.com.

News just in - Saturday's Corinthian-Casuals game is OFF
Meaning neither the first team or reserves are in action this weekend. So you can stay in and exercise your brain with the quiz questions below. Even if you don't know all the answers, it's worth entering although you only get half a pint if you win with half the answers.
Friday 15th Jan 12.30pm

Another update
Mick Sullivan told me that there was another good turn out for training last night with 34 players again including some of our U18s. There was a good fitness session in the snow, then the players used the club house for a team event football quiz. There are some photos of this if you go to 'The Club' drop down along the top and go to the 'Photos' tab. Or just click here.
There will be more training at Wilson's School again this Saturday from 12noon till 2pm in readiness for the Horsham YMCA game at home this Tuesday. The only injuries at the moment are Kev Terry and Hassan Nyang who is recovering from calf strain picked up in the Whyteleafe game on Boxing Day.
And don't forget the quiz below!!
Friday 15th Jan 8.30

Update and a Tanners Trivia question for you
Firstly, the snow is thawing rapidly at the Grove so Dave can get to work on it in readiness for the next first team home game - against Horsham YMCA on Tuesday evening. Apparently Dave put his fork in the pitch in a few places today, and the ground was soft underneath which means the frost has come out. Also the River Mole is quite low which means the pitch will hopefully drain OK. It might not stay that way of course when all that snow on top of Boxhill begins to melt. Whatever, there's likely to be a pitch inspection on Tuesday afternoon so watch this space.
Next, and not surprisingly given the above, Saturday's reserve team game at the Grove against Basingstoke Town is cancelled (the Suburban League has already postponed all games on Saturday).
Lastly, to keep your brains tuned into the Tanners, here's a tricky trivia question to test your Tanners knowledge (courtesy of Mr Richard Wilkinson):

  1. Name the two Leatherhead players (and the opponents) to have scored hat tricks in the noughties yet not finished on the winning side?
  2. How many Leatherhead hat tricks have there been in the noughties?
  3. Which Leatherhead player holds the record for most goals in a game in the noughties?
  4. Which game saw players from both sides record hat tricks?

A free pint of beer is on offer to the first person who e-mails me withall the correct answers! My e-mail address is david.pope3@ntlworld.com. Get thinking and good luck!

Update from Mick
I thought I'd get an update from Mick, here's what he had to say:
"There isn't much to report really. All I can say is that the players are training hard and focused on the next game we play. I'm trying to change the mind set of the players that the season is starting again and there's plenty of points to play for. We haven't given up hope on achieving fifth spot. There's plenty of competition for places now, and our only injury doubt (Kev Terry) should be fit before we play another game. We have had two great training sessions - one at the club last Tuesday when 35 players turned up including the promising players from the u-18s. They will be brought in towards the end of the season to have a look at the ones we think can make the transition. And on Saturday we had a good team bonding session at Wilson's School in Wallington where Mark Simmonds is the PE teacher (as per photos below)."
Wednesday 13th January 09.00

Snow joke...Merstham game OFF but players are keeping fit!
Confirmation that the game at Fetcham Grove tomorrow night is off, it has been resecheduled for Tuesday 2nd March. Also the Reserves cup game against Mole Valley has fallen victim to the weather, it will now be played on Tuesday 26th January at Cobham FC.
Here's a few photos to remind us what Fetcham Grove looks like, looks lovely doesn't it, pity we can't play football on it!

And here' some of the players at their indoor training session last week - Mick has got them all working hard to stay fit, but it would be great to kick a ball in anger wouldn't it?

Hopefully the big thaw is on it's way, I wonder if the game away to Corinthian-Casuals could be a go-er? Watch this space.
Monday 11th January 18.45

Rearranged game
The postponed match away to Whyteleafe will now be played on Tuesday 26th January. No news yet on the Bognor cup tie though. As far as Tuesday night's home game against Merstham, watch this space but don't hold your breath...
Sunday 10th Jan 21.00

Fleet Town game OFF
Yup no surprises, tomorrow's match against Fleet isn't going to happen. A bit of snow on the pitch. Let's see how it goes for Tuesday's league encounter with Merstham, but don't hold your breath. Watch this space...
Friday 8th January 19.00

Fixtures update
First team - if the Fetcham Grove pitch is playable we will be playing Merstham in a league game next Tuesday evening (as per the fixtures list) - the much postponed cup game versus Bognor Regis Town will be rescheduled to another date, will let you know as soon as I get details.
Reserves - see fixtures for updated games including the much postponed match against Mole Valley.
Under-18 Youth - tomorrow's (Thursday) game against Woking at River Lane is postponed for obvious reasons.
Wednesday 6th January 19.00

Bognor Match - CANCELLED (as has the Reserves game)
The first teams cup game against Bognor Regis Town tonight at Fetcham Grove has been called off due to a frozen pitch. As has the Reserves game at Corinthian-Casuals. Stay in the warm!
Tuesday 5th Jan 10.00am

Bognor match - update
There will be a 12.30pm pitch inspection at Fetcham Grove tomorrow. I won't be able to update this site until about 5.30pm, but check it out before you set off. It's not looking promising though...
Monday 4th Jan 17.30

Reserves - rearranged fixture
The Reserve's postponed Surrey Premier Cup tie against local rivals Mole Valley will now be played next Tuesday 12th January at Cobham FC.
Monday 4th Jan 18.45

Both Tanners games OFF today
You can all stay in the warm because both the reserve game at Fetcham Grove and the first team match at Whyteleafe have been called off due to frozen pitches. The referee arrived early at Whyteleafe for the inspection but after a quick walk on the surface he declared that there was no point waiting until 12.30 as it was clearly unplayable and was very unlikely to improve. So the Tanners again go without a match, next up is the Ryman League cup game versus Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday night, but seeing the forecast for the next few days that must also be doubtful. Anyway, watch this space for news.
Saturday 2nd January 11.40

Pitch Inspection at Whyteleafe

Saturday 2nd January 11.30

Bring on the 'Leafe
Whyteleafe v Leatherhead - Saturday 2nd January k.o. 3pm
Tomorrow sees the Tanners make the short trip to the Church Road home of Whyteleafe. A chance to gain quick revenge for the home defeat only last Saturday (although it seems a lot longer). Let's hope that we can start the New Year as we mean to go on - with a win and a much needed three points! Directions can be found here. I guess there must be some doubt about the playability of the pitch - any news will be posted here as soon as I have it.

That was the year that was...
Well... there goes another year, not sure we'll be sorry to see the back of it to be honest, but at least our football club is in good hands both on and off the field. On behalf of everyone at the club here's hoping you have a wonderful 2010.
Thursday NYE 10.00

Plod off
News just in, tonight's first team game against the Met Police has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Tuesday 29th Dec 16.15

Reserve game off
Perhaps not surprisingly since it's been raining all morning and afternoon, tonight's reserve team game at the Grove is off.
Tuesday 29th Dec @ 15.00

And the Beat goes on...
A chance for the Tanners to bounce back after the disappointing Boxing Day defeat. Tomorrow night (Tuesday) we make the short trip to Imber Court to face a Met Police side who are about as consistent as we are (i.e. not very), and have lost their last three. Both sides will be looking for that spark that will kick start a rise up the table. With two very closely matched sides it will either be a humdinger or your indigestion will return. Directions here. And the Reserves are also playing tomorrow night at home to local rivals Mole Valley Predators in the Surrey Cup.
Monday 28th December

Boxing Day hangover
Leatherhead  1 - 2  Whyteleafe
A local derby defeat for the Tanners, who missed a penalty and took the lead but couldn't hang on against the 'Leafe.

Whyteleafe game is ON
It's wet and muddy, but the referee who's just inspected it has said that the pitch is playable, so it's all systems go. See you there at noon!
Boxing Day 9.25am

Boxing Day game v Whyteleafe - pitch inspection
News just in...there will be at 9.15am pitch inspection at Fetcham Grove on Saturday (Boxing Day) to confirm whether the game can go ahead. The pitch is looking pretty sodden at the mo, so watch this space for an update as soon as I have it.

A festive message from Mick...
Firstly on behalf of the Leatherhead FC management team I wanted to wish all our supporters a
Leatherhead " MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR"
The season so far has had so many inconsistent performances it's been like a roller coaster up and down each week. A lot of this is down to injuries to key players which then enforced changes to team formations etc to accommodate the players which were available to me - hence good and bad performances. Then add to that the postponements it's stopped any consistency that we need to build on.
Those are the excuses out of the way, now I'm really hoping the team will start to gel and string results together as I feel we have a very strong squad - which has showed in the last two games. If we can keep injury-free for a few weeks it might allow us to go on a winning run which is required now to keep on the shirt tails of the top eight. Whyteleafe are on the horizon this coming Saturday (Boxing Day). They are in a similar position to us with I suspect the same ambition to 'gate crash' the top five. I'm anticipating a tough and tight game, any side managed by Stuart Massey will give its all for the three points on offer and I'm hoping its a good football spectacle for our supporters on the day. Some good news is that Kev Terry has recovered from his hip injury against Ashford Town and is available for Saturdays game.

Christmas Eve (Thursday)

Super Sunday
Just while there's a bit of a lull in first and reserve team news, some of you may know that the Tanners also have a Sunday side who ply their trade at Fetcham Grove in the Leatherhead & District 2nd Division. Actually they do more than just play, they steamroller all opposition - they are undefeated in all league and cup games in the whole of 2009. And there's some familiar names in the squad - Ashdown, Syrett, Legg. Hell, even one Mr Inglethorpe has turned out for them. Anyway they have their own website here: www.webteams.co.uk/leatherheadfc
(I am going to tinker around with the website over the hols and will put a permanent link on a drop-down in due course).
Wednesday 23rd December

Inevitable...Bognor game OFF (Reserves as well)
Yes, I've just received the inevitable phone call to say that the Fetcham Grove pitch is unplayable so for the second time tonight's fixture is postponed. Geoff Corner has done a grand job in getting it quickly re-scheduled - it will now take place on Tuesday 5th January (with the winners away to Whyteleafe or Godalming a week later). And just in case you thought you might pop over to Tolworth to see the Reserves play Corinthian-Casuals, well that's been postponed too. So just stay in, snuggle up and convince yourself that there's something worth watching on TV instead (there isn't).
Tuesday 22nd December

Bognor game
There will be a pitch inspection at Fetcham Grove tomorrow morning at 11am to see whether the evening's cup game versus The Rocks will go ahead or not. Watch this space...

Race Night fun
A big thank you to Peter Ashdown (organisation), Pete Bowers (race-meister), Bridget and Hannah (bar), Karen (raffle) and everyone else involved in last night's Race Night at the Grove. A fine time was had by all, it was great seeing so many U-10 and U-11 youth teams kids there - and their parents. Also Henders, Mick Sullivan and management team. Much betting was in evidence, needless to say the two horses that I sponsored both turned out to have three legs (each) and I spent more than I won. But hey, it was all in a good cause and over £1500 was raised for the club, plus the bar takings which were boosted by the cask of Rip Snorter bitter, which seemed like a good idea last night but not so good when the alarm went off this morning. Also fantastic to see our club room packed to the rafters. Oh, and a fine buffet to boot. Perfick.
Monday 21st December

Both Tanners games called off...
As you might have guessed, both the first team game away at Worthing and the reserves home fixture against Ash Utd have fallen victim to the cold snap.
Saturday 19th December

Friday update
If you're wondering if tomorrow's matches involving the Tanners are going ahead the answer is "not sure". For the first team there will be a pitch inspection at Worthing tomorrow morning at 10.30am. Similarly there will be a morning pitch inspection at Fetcham Grove to see if the Reserves game against Ash Utd can go ahead. Watch this space...
On another subject, in the last month the club has received two 'seven day approaches' for two of our star players. Firstly Corinthian-Casuals sent one for forward Kevin Terry and that was followed by an approach from Merstham FC for defender Chris Boulter. Both players were informed by Mick Sullivan and permission was granted for them to talk to the clubs concerned. After seven days both players spoke to the clubs and then informed manager Mick Sullivan that they wished to stay at Leatherhead FC.The Manager and Directors are delighted that both players have decided to stay and help Mick build a team for the future.

Snow joke - U-18s Youth team match tonight has been postponed
Tonight's game against Burgess Hill at River Lane has fallen foul to the rather inclement weather.
Thursday 17th December 17.00

Chairman's end of year report
Chairman Peter Ashdown gives an update for supporters on the current state of play at the club...
"My first five months as Tanners Chairman has been a busy, interesting and very enjoyable experience. I thought I would use this opportunity to update all supporters on what has been going on behind the scenes.
We have, this year, developed a Youth Section with around 200 boys participating from age group Under 10 to Under 18's. The new home ground for the LFC Youth Academy is at River Lane, Fetcham, where in under 6 months we have seen great improvements to pitches and a refurbished clubhouse. Dennis Crema the Youth Section Chairman has led the development programme and invested considerable money into the project to assist the creation of one of the best youth facilities in the county. If you have not yet visited the new River Lane complex, come down and watch the Under 18's play in the floodlit midweek Ryman Youth League, where a young side are improving as the season progresses under the guidance of coaches Bill Bolton, Jon Earl and Adam Churchill. The youth team is now training on occasions with the reserve team, which allows a natural progression for our best players from youth into senior football.
Off the field the club is thriving by generating various essential income streams with outside hirings of the Tanners Lounge and Clubhouse to companies and private individuals. Graham Markham, our clubhouse manager is to be congratulated on his excellent work in this field, unseen by most supporters. We continue to strive to create income from outside sources that will help us to improve club facilities and support the improvement of our 1st team.
We have recently completed the car park refurbishment at Fetcham Grove. This was the result of complex negotiations whereby a local commercial property developer funded the refubishment, in return for which LFC have granted a rent free period during which the developers office tenants may use 30 car parking spaces at the club during office hours midweek. The improved car park has allowed us to generate much needed club funds by sub-letting other spaces to local office users. All of these improvements have been undertaken in close consultation with our landlords Mole Valley DC.
We are very proud of this website, that is now gathering momentum as a result of more contributors and in particular, David Pope having volunteered to act as webmaster thus ensuring regular updates on club news. Our sponsors are also very impressed, and the number of new "hits" the site is receiving is very encoraging.
I have visited more non-league grounds in the last 4 months than I recall, but without doubt we have the best pitch at this level, and that is down to our hard working groundsman and lifelong Tanners supporter, Dave Blaskowski. It is a fine balancing act between ensuring that the ever increasing number of games can be played at Fetcham Grove, particularly following the wettest November in history, but avoiding lasting damage being done to the pitch by playing games on a wet surface. The club is once again very lucky to have such a dedicated groundsman.
It is inevitable that in most peoples eyes the success of a football club is measured by the performance of the first team and it's league position but there are many factors that help bring that about. We aim to run the club as a sound business, without living beyond our means, and creating longevity by a sound playing and coaching structure that enables young footballers to progress through from the youth to senior sections of the club. Our sponsors are valuable partners in developing the club. We are ambitious for sustained growth and success, which will take time, but we are already moving in the right direction.
We have a hard working and enthusiastic committee, all of whom give their time to help our community club. I have been involved in many sports clubs over the last 30 years, but never have I worked with such a large group of true volunteers, whose enthusiasm is infectious.
As we move towards 2010 it is appropriate to look back over the last year and measure how the club has progressed. I think we have achieved a lot in a short period of time, and we have a very exciting future. Under Mick Sullivan's guidance I confidently predict continued progress 'on the field'.
Wishing all supporters a Happy Christmas, and a healthy and prosperous New Year
"
Peter Ashdown, Chairman

Champions!!
Leatherhead Res 3 - 1 Basingstoke Town Res (Leatherhead win 5 - 4 on agg)
On a cold and frosty evening at the Grove the Reserves collected another trophy tonight - this time the Suburban Champions Cup. Well done to the players, coaches and backroom staff for this fantastic achievement. The Tanners played their usual passing game to record a comfortable win, the margin could (should) have been higher. Full report in due course, photos below.
Tuesday 15th December

Leatherhead

Update...
Just a few things:

Firstly don't forget that the Reserves are playing the second leg of the Champions Final against Basingstoke Town at Fetcham Grove tomorrow night (Tuesday) kick-off 7.45pm. This is a massive game for them, the Reserves trail 2-3 after the first leg so there is all to play for (and away goals count double). Let's give them all the support we can.

Next, and this doesn't make for easy reading, if you want to see a report on the Reserves 7-0 defeat last Saturday to an Eastleigh side packed with first-teamers you will find it here (don't say you haven't been warned). But thanks to cub reporter Ken Elston for his debut report - not an easy one!

Next, and on a brighter note, the Tanners Under-18 Youth side beat Hook 2-1 in the County Cup. To read how they did it, read David Hedges' report here.

Lastly, the self same U-18 Youth team are in action again this Thursday night when they entertain Burgess Hill at River Lane. Kick-off 7.45pm.
Monday 14th December

Highly entertaining...

Notwithstanding their defeat by us on Saturday, it's good to read that Ashford Town still have a sense of humour. Have a read of their match report, it is very funny, particularly the description of Leon's first goal...www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk/Match%20Reports.html
Monday 14th December

Mick Sullivan reflects on the Ashford match...

Following Saturdays game against the Nuts & Bolts I got Mick's thoughts:

The players had a good first half and a comfortable second, the forwards scoring and my defenders keeping a clean sheet - so that was all I could've asked for to be honest. Better still I enjoyed the 'X Factor' for the second week running ! .
I'm really pleased that I could name the same side from the previous week for the first time this season, and I believe that it's starting to show in the performance on the pitch. The real test now is how this team performs away from home against one of the leagues top sides Worthing FC (this coming Saturday) .
Confidence is high in the dressing room which is always a good sign and as I keep saying the squad has real depth including key players in our strong reserve side.
Unfortunately the Reserves lost away to a strong Eastleigh team featuring many first team players (as their first tean didn't have a fixture) - going down 7-0 on Saturday. But they are all upbeat from the comments I've heard  from the Managerment and the Senior players last night that made the long trip down to Southhampton. I know they are looking forward to the second leg of the Champions Final at the Grove this Tuesday, I'm hoping that we'll get a good crowd to cheer them on.
Monday 14th December 19.00

Captain Henders - 401 not out
After yesterday's match Chairman Peter Ashdown presented Henders with a fine cut glass decanter to celebrate his 400th game for the Tanners last week against Chipstead. Just what you need for your Christmas sherry Iain. What made the occasion even more enjoyable was the news that Henders is going to be a father for the first time, fortunately he has planned the birth of his first-born in June, so there won't be any interruption in his quest to get to 500 appearances! Congratulations and I know all Tanners fans would like to thank Henders for his outstanding loyalty to our club.

Simpson brace buries Ashford
Leatherhead  2 - 0  Ashford Town
An excellent first half performance from the Tanners was enough to put paid to Ashford's hopes of getting off the bottom of the league. From the first whistle the boys in green looked like they meant business, good crisp passing, Simmo controlling play from the middle of the park, lots of movement, plenty of chances. Big Leon Simpson showed real quality when he lobbed the keeper from the edge of the area, and then 15 minutes later got in front of the defender to guide a superb Kev Terry cross into the net. 2-0 and easy does it. Leon missed a header when his hatrick beckoned, numerous other chances created, we should have been 5-0 up at half-time. Unfortunately we stopped playing in the second half, and after the rocket they probably got from the manager in the dressing room, Ashford started. We dropped too deep and encouraged them to have a go at us. Which they did, but truth be told, they didn't create any chances at all. Against better teams we could have been punished for relaxing and thinking the game was over at half time. Anyway, no harm done, it was a solid three points for us, two wins on the trot takes us up into 12th place in the league (will try and get table updated as soon as). MOTM - Leon Simpson - took his goals well and was always a handful for the defenders. Match report here.
Sunday 13th December

Can Tanners put a spanner in the Nuts & Bolts?
Sorry, couldn't resist. Having played the bottom club last weekend, this Saturday (weather permitting) the Tanners take on this weeks bottom club, Ashford Town. Kick-off 3pm at Fetcham Grove.
Manager Mick Sullivan tells me that the squad is pretty much injury-free with Dom O'Shea and Matt Francis both available for selection. Only longer term absentee Michael Morgan is still out, but the hopes are that he will have recovered from his groin strain in early January. Now...can you imagine that? A midfield with both Simmo and Morgs? Nice. Anyway that's for the new year, right now we can expect a tight game on Saturday against an under-performing Nuts & Bolts who are desperate to get off the bottom of the league. I know Mick doesn't think there's much of a difference between the majority off the teams in this league, so it should be a competitive game. See you Saturday!
Thursday 10th December

Unfortunately following the 1pm inspection the Fetcham Grove pitch has been deemed unplayable so tonight's match is OFF. Details of the new date to follow shortly. If you still fancy a game involving the Tanners, the reserve team game away to Whyteleafe is still on.

Tuesday 8th December 14.45

Bognor Regis match tomorrow - pitch inspection

Following more rain today, there will be a pitch inspection at the Grove at 1pm tomorrow. Please watch this space to find out whether the game goes ahead, I'll post it as soon as I can.

One other news item, last week's postponed home game against Corinthian-Casuals will now be played at the Grove on Tuesday 9th February at 7.45pm.

Monday 7th December 18.55

Mick Sullivan reflects on the Chipstead match...

Following Saturdays game against The Chips, I got Mick's view:

"I was really pleased with the team's performance. I felt the Mark Simmonds and Leon Simpson's introduction to the starting line up injected team confidence before we even stepped out on to the pitch. The mood was good in the dressing room particularly when all could see what a strong bench I had on the day. We are finally seeing competition for places which is what i hoped for at the start of the season. If only I had Michael Morgan to add to this strong squad. I'm hoping that the team will build on this fine performance and show the supporters what they are capable of - starting on Tuesday against premier side Bognor. I must add it was good to see Iain Hendry play his 400th game for the club marshalling the defence superbly with vice-captain fantastic Chris Boulter. I also wanted to say a big thanks to all our supporters who came over and shouted for us despite the awful weather conditions".

Monday 7th December

Match report v Chipstead...

...and team line-up can be found here. I also forgot to mention (how could I forget) that yesterday was Iain Hendry's 400th appearance in a green (and occasionally blue) shirt. Congratulations!

Sunday 6th December

Tanners cash in their chips...

Chipstead  1 - 3  Leatherhead

A solid performance from the Tanners against a weak Chipstead side who justified their lowly status. How Tommy Hutchings loves played at High Road, he can't stop scoring there, this time he bagged a hatrick with three cleanly hit shots, the second was particularly memorable, fired from 30 yards out, skimming two feet above the surface like an Exocet missile before nestling in the corner of the net, with the keeper transfixed like a museum statue. The other difference for the Tanners today was the long awaited start of Mark Simmons, and once he had sized up the pace of the game, he absolutely bossed the middle of the park. Oh, how we have longed for someone to dictate from midfield, someone who can put their foot on the ball and change the direction of play. Simmo is that man, and although he won't always get the space he did today, it augurs well for the future (fitness permitting). It would have been good if we had kept a clean sheet but Simmo went off and we relaxed a tad too much. No fault of Colin Harris who again gave a confident and assured performance between the sticks. Match report to follow shortly, but the Tanners can go into Tuesday night's Ryman League Cup clash at the Grove against Bognor Regis Town with confidence and a welcome three points in their back pockets.

Saturday 5th December 17.50

Reserve game OFF

Today's local cup derby between the Reserves and Mole Valley has fallen victim to the terrible weather we have had this week. The pitch at the Grove is not fit for play, so no game for the reserves today. More people to head over to Chipstead then...

Saturday 5th December 10.47am

Hello Mr Chips...Chipstead v Tanners - Saturday 5th December 3pm

The Tanners look to bounce back after last Saturday, we certainly need to ketchup with the teams in the play-off positions (sorry). So do The Chips as they are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. Last week we were facing top of the league opposition, tomorrow it's a critical match against a team below us - so three points will definitely be the expectation. Mick Sullivan is boosted by the availability of the core of his midfield - Tommy Williams, Hassan Nyang and Mark Simmons.

We've had some interesting games at High Road in the last couple of years, I'm sure tomorrow will be no different. Hopefully you can make it (directions here), as the lads appreciate all your support.

Friday 4th December

Under 18s - tonight's home game is OFF

The Under 18s youth team game tonight against Woking has been postponed due to the River Lane pitch being waterlogged.

Thursday 3rd Decemeber

Tonight's game against Corinthian-Casuals is OFF

The referee who inspected the pitch this afternoon decided that there was too much water and it was not playable, so watch this space for the rearranged date.

Tuesday 1st December

Corinthians are coming (but)...

Tanners v Corinthian-Casuals - Tuesday 1st December 7.45pm

The Tanners entertain a Corinthian-Casuals team who languish in the lower half of the table like their hosts. So an important three points is up for grabs. However, given the deluge of the last few days, there will be a pitch inspection at the Grove at about 2pm. Unfortunately I won't be able to update this website until about 5.30pm, so watch this space...

Monday 30th November

Mick reshuffles managerial team

Mick has made a change to his management team. He has swapped his current number two Barry Peacock with the reserve team manager Peter Thomas. Barry will work alongside John Heath running the reserves, whilst Peter will make his first appearance alongside Mick in the dugout at tomorrow nights game against Corinthian-Casuals.

Monday 30th November

Mick Sullivan reflects on the Godalming match...

Following Saturdays game against The Town, I got Mick's view:

"I thought we missed a bit of creative spark in the middle of the park and a cutting edge that Dom normally gives us when he plays up front. I suppose I had to put square pegs in round holes for this game after news on Thursday that Tommy Williams was out to a groin strain. Hence putting Dominic who had played there early season in the middle. Yes, it was a really disappointing performance - I always felt that this would be a tricky fixture as they are strong and direct side. What was frustrating is the goals conceded were very poor having been very disciplined in this department over the last few weeks. I always thought we were in it till the penalty but once that went in we huffed and puffed but didn't really get at Godalming. The turning point like Tuesday was a stone wall penalty not given, which I think would of given us a foot hold in the game. We are not too far away from getting some consistency in the team but the little re-shuffles do affect the way we play which showed on Saturday. I thought Rico Morris showed signs of what he can do on his debut and hopefully will give us the pace and trickery that Josh Smith does on the right wing. He was signed from Walton and Hersham last week. Of the recent absentees, Hassan Nyang will be back after suspension this week, and Mark Simmonds will be available after his slight reaction to his groin from last Tuesdays game. And I'm also hoping Tommy Williams might be available for selection as well."

Monday 30th November

Town too strong for Tanners

Tanners 0 - 2 Godalming Town

The Tanners slipped to a disappointing home defeat at the hands of a strong and well-organised Godalming side. The goals came from a first half header, and a second half penalty. Tanners had a good shout for a penalty turned down but in reality we didn't create that much and we lacked a bit of spark and creativity in the middle of the park. Match report to follow here

Sunday 29th November

Pitch update - Saturday 11.30am

The sun is shining and the Fetcham Grove pitch is in fine fettle so the game is definitely on.

Unfortunately the same can't be said of the reserves, whose away fixture at Eastleigh has just been called off.

But first team game against Godalming is fine, bring it on...

Saturday 28th November

Chuck's away...Tanners v Godalming Town - Saturday 28th November 3pm

For the second time in a few days Tanners play a team sitting in the coveted play-off positions. Our good friend Chuck Martini brings his high-flying Godalming side to Fetcham Grove. Having just fallen short against second place Folkestone, expectations will be high that we can overcome the tricky Town. If we can repeat our first half performance from Tuesday for the whole ninety minutes it could get interesting. If it rains and starts to look a bit dodgy, keep your eye on this site.

Friday 27th November

John Ainsworth

Older fans will be saddened to hear that long standing Tanners supporter John Ainsworth passed away this week. For Tanners fans who want to pay their respects his funeral will be held next week on Wednesday, 2nd December at 2pm at Randalls Road Crematorium. This will be followed by a celebration of his life at the Running Horse pub in Bridge Street.

Reserves grab valuable away goals in first leg of final...

The reserves lost 3 - 2 away to Basingstoke Town in the first leg of the first leg of the Champions Cup Final. A strong wind made it a game of two halves. Basingstoke lead 2- 0 before Steve Barilli pulled one back just before the break. Adam Goodwell levelled with a header and we looked the better team, but Basingstoke broke away and scored in injury time. Tom Horley nearly levelled with a header well saved by the keeper with the last chance of the game.

So...all to play for in the second leg which is at the Grove on Tuesday 15th December. And remember, away goals count double!
Team: Ant Guiney, Sacha, Jack Holmes, Henders, Antonio, Adam Goodwell, John Dale, Tom Horley, Steve Barilli, Greg Andrews, Rob Stevenson

Thursday 26th November

Mick Sullivan reflects on the Folkestone match...

Following last nights game against the table topping Seasiders, I got Mick's view of things:

"It was certainly a game of two halves. I thought we had plenty of play in the first half with help from the wind and thought we might play better in the second as I thought the ball would hold up more to help our style of passing play.  It was not to be as Folkestone bossed it without really troubling Colin Harris too much. They had the rub of the green with the first goal holding and dipping in the wind, and the penalty shout we should've had in the second half. They had one good chance and took it; we huff and puffed but never really got at there goalkeeper. Like most of our lost games this season by the odd goal a draw would have been the fairer result. We are due a bit of good fortune but we are blooding the young reserve players and they haven't let me down yet.

Turning to the squad, we have signed Jamie Beer and Adrian Jones who is a great goalkeeper - to add to the competition. As far as injuries are concerned, Mark Elston is two weeks away and Matt Francis needs a couple of more games. And at long last Mark Simmons had the last ten minutes last night, and showed in that short space of time what we have been missing."

Wednesday 25th November

Invicta pip Tanners

Tanners 1 (Terry) - 2 Folkestone Invicta

A keenly fought game at The Grove tonight, the Tanners matched high-flyers Folkestone all the way and deserved a point. They were undone by a late strike for the visitors, after Kev Terry's terrific first -half volley had equalised a very early Invicta goal. Match report here.

Tuesday 24th November

Folkestone game is ON

Pitch inspected, it's wet and windy, but as of now (5.45pm) the match is on tonight.

Monday 23rd November

Folkestone game tomorrow

Groundsman Dave Blas will be taking a good look at the pitch tomorrow morning about 10am, if it's looking dodgy then a local referee will inspect it at 3pm, so watch for announcements after then if the weather hasn't been kind to us.

Monday 23rd November

Christmas is coming...

Just a quick note to say that the Boxing Day fixture at Fetcham Grove against Whyteleafe will be a noon kick-off.

Monday 23rd November

This week...

...sees the first team in action against second-in-the-table Folkestone Invicta. Tuesday night (24th November) 7.45pm at The Grove. With the Tanners bouyant from their great win against Sittingbourne on Saturday, and Folkestone only losing once this season, it should be a Tuesday night cracker.

The reserves are in action on Wednesday (25th November) when they play Basingstoke Town in the first leg of the Champions Cup Final. The club is running a coach which still has seats available to supporters. Please call the club to reserve (forgive the pun) a seat - the coach will leave Fetcham Grove at 5.00pm. The second leg will be at The Grove on Tuesday 15th December.

Monday 23rd November

Mick Sullivan reflects...

I caught up with Manager Mick Sullivan after yesterdays fantastic 3-0 win away at Sittingbourne. Here's what he said:

"I'm very proud of the players - they gave me work rate, desire, and the quality when needed to win the game. I changed the formation from our normal line up as I was happy we could compete with the right two in the middle again.  I'm still learning about the players regarding their strengths and weaknesses. The Reserve squad are stepping up and taking their chances and the team spirit is excellent at the moment which comes with winning.  Hopefully the players can give the supporters and the management team something special on Tuesday against the league leaders Folkestone. What's also great is that the players that weren't involved today and played against AFC Wimbledon Reserves can step in and compete for places no problem"

Sunday 22nd November

A fantastic away win in Kent today as the men in Green produce a top notch display in Kent.
